There are many laws, legal cases, policies, and important events that have shaped the way we
instruct English language learners in our country. For this you will find information about at
least 3 policies* that influenced the education of ELs in our country. One of the policies must
be from the list below, and the other two are your choice. The events could be local, out of
state, or at the federal level. You will need to write up an original summary of each policy or
case that includes:
a) important dates (at least one case/law must have occurred within the last decade),
b) key players (who was involved),
c) the events which led to the law/case,
d) the argument or purpose,
e) the outcomes, and
f) how it affected the education of ELLs.
